How to Audition
If you would like to audition, follow this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B6mDP63YgNlAXzJLWGdldUpkSVE?resourcekey=0-8Yay8NhZA6WYuK4auUNglA. You will find vocal tracks of a Barbershop Tag. There will be nine tracks in total. These tracks will include a 4-part balanced recording of the tag, a part-predominant recording for each part (tenor, lead, baritone, and bass), and a part missing recording for each part. The 4-part balanced recording will allow you to hear what the tag should sound like. The part predominant recording will help you learn the part that you choose to sing. The part missing recording will be used to sing your part against for your audition. You will choose the part that you would like to sing and make a recording of yourself singing your part with the recording that has that part missing. You will then email your recording to [email protected].
PS. What's a Tag? A tag, in barbershop music, is a dramatic variation put in the last section of the song. Its rough analog in Classical music is a coda. Tags are characterized by heightening the dramatic tension of the song, frequently including a hanger, or sustained note against which the other singers carry the rhythm.
After the Audition
Your recording will be reviewed and you will be contacted by a member of the music team. After you have passed the audition, you will be sent a membership form that will need to be filled out and returned with a check of $60 for your annual dues. Once your membership form has been received, you will be sent sheet music and vocal tracks for the music we will be learning. We will try to place singers in parts of their choosing, but please realize that we must also keep the chorus balanced.
Quartets
As a member of Harmony, Inc., you will also be eligible to compete as a member of a quartet. We can help you through the registration process and help you find music to sing. Join with three of your friends and form a quartet together, or we can help you find matching voices within the chorus. Quartet competition is April, in Jacksonville, FL. It is the evening before the chorus competition.
